The McDaniel College Department of Music will present “An Evening of Madrigals,” Monday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in (Little) Baker Chapel. The Madrigal Singers, the premier vocal ensemble at McDaniel College, are under the direction of music department chair Margaret Boudreaux.
Repertoire will reflect this year's concert date: Cinco de Mayo, and includes audiences participation pieces such as "Cielito Lindo," arranged by Deke Sharon, and "La Bamba," also arranged by Sharon, as well as “Arroz con leche," arranged by Carlos Gustavino. The program also includes acappella works in many styles, including "Hide and Seek" by Imogene Heap, "May Day Carol," arranged by Jerome Epstein, “Java Jive,” by Ben Oakland, arranged by Kirby Shaw, and many Renaissance works.
The Madrigal Singers are selected from the membership of the McDaniel College Choir. They perform exclusively unaccompanied vocal music, primarily Renaissance Madrigals, but also including a good variety of world music and vocal jazz. This year’s Madrigal Singers are Clarissa Balint, Matt Butt, Joshua Harding, Jessica Hare, Benjamin Kohn, Sakena Martin, Foster McDaniel, and Erin Morris.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 410-857-2599.
