McDaniel College’s Department of Music will present its College Band in concert Friday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will take place in WMC Alumni Hall.
Dr. Linda Kirkpatrick directs the band, which features nearly fifty students, faculty members, band alumni and community musicians. The band has a vast repertoire and performs everything from classical to pops.
“We will, of course, feature some holiday favorites,” Kirkpatrick says, “but this concert will also celebrate many important people throughout history, including ‘heroes’ Abram (14th chapter of “Genesis”), Rosa Parks, and those who fought and served in the American Civil War. We have some wonderful music that portrays each of these individuals.”
Another highlight of the program will be the world premiere of “Otto’s Flight.” The piece, which honors German aviator Otto Lilienthal, was composed by McDaniel alumnus Justine Koontz.
Students in the band include McDaniel’s Caleb Bates, Jillian Bechtel, Nina Garfield, Madeline Jackowski, Anthony Kormann, Alan Lyons, Victoria Mansfield (who will conduct one piece), Gordon Masters, Sarah McRoberts, Laine Nightingale, Luis Ortiz, Cara Sanneman, Miranda Schmidt, Ricky Tisinger, Troy Wine, and Samantha Yates, and Carroll Community College’s Sean McGuire and Josh Singer. Others in the band are Margaret Akey, Joey Andrews, Katie Berry, LuoLuo Chen, Samantha DeJordy, Elizabeth Dumm, Kristin Hamby, Roslyn Heald, Lindsay Marks, David Motter, Anthony Napolitano, Julian Schoming, and Scott Taylor.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 410-857-2599.
