McDaniel College’s Department of Music will present a “Dedicatory Piano Recital,” Sunday, October 6 at 3:00 p.m. in (Big) Baker Memorial Chapel. The concert will celebrate the chapel’s new Yamaha Grand piano.
Among the performers are McDaniel music department members David Kreider and Don Horneff. They will be joined by Dan Toal, current McDaniel music student Charles Eron, and McDaniel graduates Jane McIlvain Dennis, Aaron Burns, Rob Holt, and Rob Holthause.
Program highlights will include "Ballade in A Flat " by Frederic Chopin, "Preludes for Piano" by George Gershwin, "Hungarian Dances" by Johannes Brahms (arranged for four hands), and "Sposalizio" by Franz Liszt.
The McDaniel Music Department is grateful to all those whose contributions made the purchase of this piano possible, in particular the support of Jane and Ed Shauck.
This recital is dedicated to the memory of Mary Jane Collerd Shauck, Class of 1947, who passed away on April 1, 2010. As a home economics major at then Western Maryland College, Jane was also a life-long lover of music, the piano in particular. In fact, because of her love for this wonderful instrument, Jane and Ed established a Departmental Piano Fund in 1989, enabling the Music Department to purchase equipment, including pianos.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 410-857-2599.
