The McDaniel College Department of Music will present a Flute Choir and Small Ensembles concert Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. The performance, directed by Linda Kirkpatrick, will take place in McDaniel Lounge.
The small ensembles on the program are formed from the Flute Choir, and have included duets and quartets in the past. In previous years the groups were part of a formally scheduled class. “The McDaniel College Flute Choir ‘Club’ is still the same group,” Kirkpatrick notes. “It’s just not a class anymore. I keep it going because fifteen people want to play in it!”
The program will feature the Flute Choir performing “Fantasia on the Land of the Silver Birch,” by Nancy Nourse, “Greensleeves,” arranged by Anne McGinty, three Korean folk songs, arranged by Kelly Via, and “Of Wizards and Witches,” by Phyllis Louke. The Flute Quartet is scheduled to perform “Dawn Carol,” by Margaret Lowe, Concerto for Four Flutes by George Telemann, and “Falconer,” by Catherine McMichael.
Performers include McDaniel students Rachel Behrmann-Fowler, Rachel Bier, and Su Kim, Carroll Community College students Edward Granlund and Emma Sigrist, and community musicians Linda Herrmann, Esther Jones, Bobbi Little, Sheila Nevius (a McDaniel alumna), Beth Ream, Tessa Starr, and Mary Stojak.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 410-857-2599.
