McDaniel College Theatre will present “Jack and the Beanstalk,” an original holiday pantomime, December 19 – 21 in WMC Alumni Hall. Pantomime, or “panto,” is the British winter musical-comedy theatre that takes familiar fairy tales and injects a bit of Vaudeville sensibility, contemporary references and audience participation to create a raucous, noisy entertainment that's fun for everyone in the family.
Times are hard for young Jack and his mother, and, to make matters worse, Jack is tricked into selling his beloved cow Daisy for a few magic beans. But when those beans grow into a beanstalk, Jack meets an evil Giant and finds himself in a whole new realm of trouble, thrills, and adventure.
Will Jack find the courage to battle the Giant? Will he find the strength to rescue the girl of his dreams? The only way to find out is to join us on this fun-filled holiday journey!
The cast includes current students Kevin Anderson, Samantha Arana, Julia Asbel, Paul Davis Griffin, Josh Harding, Katie Kunz, Maggie Kunz, Jennifer Litzinger, Elizabeth Maxman, Juliana Ottomano, Masha Paul, Jennifer Shillingburg, and Adam Vaughn.
Adapted and directed by McDaniel professor Ira Domser, this will be the premiere of this new take on the classic tale. Domser is sure the whole family will love the panto style, which “combines the slapstick comedy of Commedia del’Arte with the clever humor of Benny Hill and Monty Python’s Flying Circus.”
Performances are December 19, 20, and 21 at 7:00 p.m. and December 21 at 2:00 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students and the McDaniel College community. For information, call 410-857-2448.
