The McDaniel College Department of Music will present its popular Jazz Night on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall. The concert will feature styles of jazz representing classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, Funk, Jazz-rock, and Classic Blues. Tim Jenkins directs.
Concert selections will be chosen from this semester’s repertoire, which includes “Come To Baby Do” ( Inez James/Sydney Miller), “Palladium” (Wayne Shorter, arranged by Tim Jenkins), “Solsbury Hill” (Peter Gabriel, arranged by Tim Jenkins), “Japanese Denim” (Daniel Caesar, arranged by Tim Jenkins), “Bemsha Swing” (Thelonious Monk, arranged by Bill Holman), “Wizard Of Finance” (Parliament/Funkadelic), “Fables Of Faubus” (Charles Mingus, arranged by Sy Johnson), “You Do Something to Me” (Cole Porter), “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” (Gus Kahn), “So Mournful the Elegy, So Comforting the Hymn” (Jonas H. Peterson, arranged by Tim Jenkins), “Something's Different” (Bo Eckard, arranged by Tim Jenkins), and an untitled original composition composed by The McDaniel College Jazz Ensemble.
McDaniel students in the ensemble are Ethan Brown, Nailah Calhoun, Matthew Feller, Jacob Fine, Joe Gillespie, Ryan Higgins, Olivia Lauer, Christian Lewis, Kyle McCallister, Erin Pogue, Laurel Pouge, Andrew Pyne, Miriam Stewart, Chris Wilson, and Jewoine Wilson. Also in the ensemble are McDaniel alumni Kenny Baquol, Joshua Ellis, Arielle Jochum, and Jackie Sherwin and Francis Scott Key High School student Patrick Rippeon.
