The McDaniel College Department of Music’s Monday Night Music Series will present a concert featuring pianist David Kreider on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will take place in McDaniel Lounge. Vocalist Kyle Engler and violinist Bagus Wiswikarma will also perform.
Kreider says that “the concert will be a tribute to Clara Schumann, whose 200th birthday we celebrated in September. Kyle Engler will sing several of Clara's beautiful songs on which I will accompany her. And I will perform two of Schumann’s impressive piano solos. Finally, guest violinist Bagus Wiswikarma and I will present Piano Sonata # 1 by Johannes Brahms. Brahms' personal and musical connection with the Schumanns, both Robert and Clara, is well-known, and it seemed appropriate to include his beautiful First Violin/Piano Sonata in the program.”
Dr. David Kreider, director of Keyboard Studies at McDaniel College, is the founder and artistic director of Chamber Music on The Hill. Over the past twenty-five years, he has appeared frequently as pianist with many different chamber ensembles. His solo recitals have included performances at Wigmore Hall (London), the Musikverein (Vienna), and Carnegie Recital Hall (New York).
Kyle Engler has been praised for her extreme versatility in both operatic and chamber music. Engler is a regular performer with the Washington Opera and has participated in the world premieres of several new operas. Engler has toured and performed throughout Europe with the Ravel Trio and The Pennsylvania Academy of Music. She has also been featured with several orchestras throughout North America and is a member of the Morpheus Trio along with pianist Daniel Lau and hornist Larry Williams. Ms. Engler graduated from the Peabody Conservatory and is currently the Director of Vocal Studies at McDaniel College.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 410-857-2599.
