McDaniel College's Department of Art and Art History presents “Compulsory Measures,” an exhibit curated by Reni Gower, January 31 through March 1 in The Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall. The opening reception will be held Thursday, January 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a Gallery Talk beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Gower asserts, “By employing obsessive approaches, artists Jorge Benitez, Kristy Deetz, Al Denyer, Joan Elliott, Reni Gower, Steve Pearson, Jennifer Printz, and Tanja Softic provide lifelines or guides for, ‘making sense’ out of the chaotic conundrums entrenched in contemporary culture. Utilizing complex systems, intricate patterning, repetitive marking, and minute detail; ‘Compulsory Measures’ features revelatory and celebratory work slowly crafted by hand.”
The Rice Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For information and to confirm gallery hours, please call 410-857-2595.
