McDaniel College Theatre presents “The Bakkhai,” April 18 through April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall. The production is directed by McDaniel’s theatre arts department chair, Elizabeth van den Berg.
This powerful new translation of “The Bakkhai,” Euripides's Greek classic, is by award-winning Classics scholar, poet, and writer Anne Carson. The story examines what happens after Pentheus has banned the wild, ritualistic worship of the god Dionysos. A stranger arrives to persuade him to change his mind. This electrifying tragedy is a struggle to the death between freedom and restraint, the rational and the irrational, man and god.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students, military, and the McDaniel College community. For more information, call the box office at 410-857-2448.
