The Ridington Lecture

“Lakota Sioux Winter Counts: Visual Art, Performance, and History” will be presented by Professor Harvey Markowitz of Washington and Lee University.  Dr. Markowitz will discuss  the Lakotas’ use of art, oral tradition, and performance in the creation and use of waniyetu iyawapi or “winter counts”  and the importance of winter counts to the maintenance of Lakota tribal identity.
